최근 구글은 새로 인수한 Waze 란 회사의 서비스를 구글맵에 적용시키기 시작했습니다. 이 서비스는 사람들이 실시간으로 교통관련 정보를 실시간으로 구글맵에 올릴 수 있게 해주는 것입니다. 이러한 크라우드소싱을 통한 방법은 어쩌면 좀 더 빠르고 정확한 교통정보를 제공해 줄 수 있을 거라 생각됩니다. 빅데이터를 통한 분석보다 가끔은 사람들이 자발적으로 참여하게 하는 것이 더 좋은 결과를 가져오는 것 아닐까요?

Google Adds Waze's Crowdsourced Traffic Data to Apps

Google Maps is already using data from its newly-acquired mapping service Waze to give users access to crowdsourced traffic reports and satellite imagery.

Just two months after Google bought Waze for a reported $1.03 billion, it was announced on Tuesday that the two companies are already sharing data. From details about traffic jams and accidents to construction and road closures, Google Maps users can now submit traffic-related information to the app.

This feature, which has already been made popular by Waze, will be updated in real time. It will first appear via the Google Maps app for Android and iOS in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, UK and the U.S.

Waze app users will also be treated to newly implemented Google Search when navigating, allowing users to look for businesses and local addresses directly within the platform.

The Waze Map Editor also features Google Street View and satellite imagery "to build out the map and make it easier to correct map errors reported by the community," Google said in an official blog post.
